Monmouth Draws Princeton in 2017 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship First Round

EDISON, NJ – The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Champions, Monmouth University (15-3-2) are set to face Ivy League Champions, Princeton University (14-2) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The first round matchup is slated for Friday, November 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Roberts Stadium in Princeton, NJ. 
 
The Hawks claimed their second-straight MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship on Wednesday, November 1, with a 5-1 defeat of Manhattan College. Monmouth is the first team to win consecutive MAAC Women’s Soccer Championships since former MAAC member Loyola (MD) won five-straight (2000-04).
 
Red-shirt senior back Allie Girardi was named the 2017 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Most Outstanding Player. Red-shirt sophomore forward Madie Gibson, senior midfield Miranda Konstantinides, and sophomore midfield/forward Lexie Palladino were named to the All-Championship Team.
 
Monmouth returns to the NCAA Championship for the third time as a member of the MAAC. The Hawks have posted an (0-2) record in two prior two appearances, while a member of the league. Monmouth seeks its first NCAA Tournament win in program history, and the first by a conference member since Fairfield University won a play-in game in 1997.
 
The Hawks and Tigers meet for the second time this season. Princeton defeated Monmouth, 3-0, in the teams lone regular season matchup on August 25, in Princeton, NJ. The Hawks lead the all-time season series with the Tigers (9-5-0). Monmouth last defeated Princeton on November 3, 1998, (4-1).
 
About the 2017 NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship:
First-round games will be played Nov. 10, 11 and 12 at campus sites. Second-round games will be played Friday, Nov. 17 at campus sites and third-round games will be played Sunday, Nov. 19 at the same campus sites. Quarterfinal games will be played Nov. 24 or 25 also on campus sites.
 
The 36th annual NCAA Women’s College Cup will be played Dec. 1 and 3 at Orlando City Soccer Stadium in Orlando, Florida with UCF and Central Florida Sports Commission serving as co-hosts. The first national semifinal will be played and broadcast live on ESPNU at 5 p.m. Eastern time Friday, Dec. 1. The second semifinal will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Eastern time live on ESPNU. The national championship match will take place at noon Eastern time Sunday, Dec. 3 and will also broadcast live on ESPNU.
