2017 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships Takes Place Friday

EDISON, NJ – The NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships take place this Friday November 10, with nine of the 11 MAAC institutions participating in either the Northwest Regional in Buffalo, NY or Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, PA.
 
Heading to Buffalo to compete in the Northeast Regional Championships are Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Quinnipiac University, and Siena College. While Monmouth University and Rider University head to Bethlehem, PA for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.
 
At the 2017 MAAC Cross Country Championships, Iona took home both the men’s and women’s titles. The men’s title marked the program’s 27th consecutive MAAC Championship, while the women picked up their second-straight title. Iona’s Andrew Tario finished 40th at the regional a year ago, and is coming off an individual title at the 2017 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship. Tario was named the conference’s Most Outstanding Runner for his efforts in the championship. Iona’s Chartt miller was the top Individual finisher for the MAAC at the 2016 Northeast Regional. Miller finished fourth overall with a time of 30:38.7.
 
On the women’s side Canisius’ Siobhan Quinn ran the 6k at the 2016 Northeast Regional in 21:14 and finished 28th, she returns as the top MAAC individual finisher from the event. The 2017 MAAC Most Outstanding Female Runner and Rookie of the Year, Iona’s Egle Morenaite will compete in her first NCAA Cross Country Regional.
 
Monmouth’s Amber Stratz and Allie Wilson are set to compete in Bethlehem, both of whom finished 21st and 22nd respectively at the MAAC Championships on October 28. Wilson finished 79th with a time of 22:16 at the 2016 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. Rider’s top finisher at the 2017 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship, Connor Riley will compete at the Mid-Atlantic Regional for the second time.
 
The Mid-Atlantic Regional starts at 10:45 a.m. with the women’s 6k and the men’s 10k run at 11:45 a.m. The Northeast Regional gets underway at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s 6k event and the men’s 10k at noon.
