EDISON, NJ – Five of the 11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball programs tip-off the 2017-18 season on Friday, November 10.

Preseason Notes:
· Back-to-back MAAC Champions, Iona College, were voted as the favorite in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving nine of 11 first-place votes
· Iona would become the first MAAC program to three-peat as champions since Siena (2008-10) and former MAAC member La Salle University (1988-90)
· A total of 72 MAAC Men’s Basketball games will air on the ESPN family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU)
· Fairfield senior guard Tyler Nelson is the 2017 MAAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year.
· Saint Peter’s represents the MAAC in the
Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament, which takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on November 18-19.
· Marist heads down to Orlando, FL from November 23-26 for the
AdvoCare Invitational
· Manhattan competes in the inaugural
Belfast Classic, which airs on the CBS Sports Network and runs December 1-2.
· NYCB LIVE, Home of the Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, NY hosts a
MAAC tripleheader on Saturday, January 27. In the LONG ISLAND HOOPS event, Fairfield faces Quinnipiac at 1:00 p.m., Marist takes on Monmouth at 4:00 p.m. and Iona plays Manhattan at 7:00 p.m.
· Manhattan placed second in the MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving two first-place votes and 104 points overall.
· Monmouth (101) ranked third in the poll, Fairfield (85) followed in fourth, and Niagara (76) was selected fifth. Siena (63) placed sixth, in seventh place was Rider (50), and Saint Peter’s (44) in eighth. Canisius (42), Marist (26), and Quinnipiac (19) rounded out the Preseason Coaches’ Poll in the final three spots.

The 2018 MAAC Basketball Championships returns to the Times Union Center in Albany, NY for the fourth year in a row and continues to be the host site for the Championships through 2019. The 2018 Men’s and Women’s Championships marks the 19
th time that Albany has hosted the event, more than any other location.
This year’s Men’s Basketball Championship game takes place on Monday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. and airs live on ESPN or ESPN2 with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
