Four MAAC Schools Compete in 2017 ECAC Winter Swimming & Diving Championships

EAST MEADOW, NY – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Winter Swimming & Diving Championships concluded this past weekend at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. Fairfield University, Manhattan College, Monmouth University, and Siena College all competed in the three-day event.

On the women’s side Fairfield finished second overall behind 2017 ECAC Champion Wagner College. The Stags recorded a score of 830, with its two top scorers, Sarah Herbold and Sara Ostensen combining for 164 of their team’s total points. Siena finished 11th, Manhattan 15th, and Monmouth 16th overall.

For the men Fairfield finished third overall and Monmouth came in fifth place. Manhattan’s Matthew Broadmeadow received Male Diver of the Meet, while Manhattan Diving Coach Micah Rembrandt received ECAC Diving Coach of the Meet.

Day 1: Friday, December 1
  • Fairfield had two individuals record top-three finishes during the first day of competition. Senior Kylie More placed third in the women’s 1-meter dive with a score of 229.10. Freshman teammate Haleigh McLaughlin recorded a time of 17:19.40 in the women’s 1650-yard freestyle.
  • The Stags also recorded a second place finish in the women’s 800-yard relay with a time of 7:37.22. The men’s relay team finished seventh in the men’s 200-yard medley with a time of 1:40.61.
  • Manhattan’s sophomore Matthew Broadmeadow finished first in the men’s 3-meter dive (211.55), outscoring the competition by nearly 30 points.
  • Monmouth (third) and Manhattan (fifth) both recorded top five finishes in the men’s 200-yard medley with times of 1:37.43 and 1:39.19, respectively.
Day 2: Saturday, December 2
  • Manhattan’s Broadmeadow took first in the men’s 1-meter dive with a score of 189.95.
  • Fairfield freshman Sarah Herbold recorded a pair of top-three finishes, taking third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:02.11) and third in the 200-yard free (1:53.50).
  • Fairfield’s Benjamin Kebbell recorded a fifth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.53.
  • Monmouth finished fourth in the men’s 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:34.49.
Day 3: Sunday, December 3
  • Fairfield and Monmouth both placed in the top-five in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay. The Stags finished just ahead of the Hawks with a time of 3:12.36, while Monmouth clocked a 3:15.20.
  • Monmouth freshman Trevor Askew swam a 2:07.91 in the men’s 200-yard backstroke, taking third place. Hawks freshman Hunter Klingenger placed fifth recording a time of 2:11.60.
  • Siena freshman Kylie George finished fourth swimming the 200-yard back in 2:24.80. Georgia finished ahead of Fairfield junior Emily Vass who clocked in at 2:25.15.
  • Fairfield finished fourth in the women’s 400 yard freestyle. The team clocked in at 3:32.94, just a second off of finishing in the top-three.
