Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Tim Wilson
Sr., Washingtonville, NY
Tim Wilson was able to do what no Monmouth athlete had done previously- go into the Millrose Games and win an individual event. Wilson threw 19.77 meters (64’10”) on his second attempt to best an invited field that included several professional athletes along with a few collegians. Wilson had a consistent series of 19.65m, 19.77m, 19.43m, 19.72m, 19.14m and 19.71m for his six throws. Second place overall went to Paul Wagner of the Shore Athletic Club. Also among those in the field that Wilson topped was Conor McCullough, a 2016 Olympian and former World Junior Championships gold medalist. On Saturday he came right back at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invite and threw 19.59m, winning that event as well. He also threw 14.03 in the shot put – his best mark of the year in the event and the eighth best among collegiate competitors.
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Bryan Sosoo
Jr., Laurel, MD
Sosoo helped the Hawks run away with the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational, winning both events he participated in. The junior set the new meet record in the 60m dash, crossing the tape in first with a time of 6.82 then went on to win the triple jump, clearing 48’ 4”. Sosoo and the Hawks will look to capture its fourth consecutive MAAC Indoor Championship this Saturday and Sunday at the Armory.
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Allison Taub
So., Holland, PA
Sophomore Allison Taub won the shot put with her throw of 46’ 3 ¼”, helping the Hawks win the Monmouth Collegiate Winter Invitational. She also finished sixth in the weight throw, tossing 49’ 5 ½”.
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Domoah Kutu-Akoi
Jr., Silver Spring, MD
Domoah Kutu-Akoi took gold in the 60m crossing the tape in 7.97 as Monmouth cruised to a win at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational, defeating six other division I teams in a meet that featured 21 colleges and clubs. On Friday, Kutu-Akoi won the women’s long jump and qualified for the ECAC championships with a distance of 5.87m. She will join the Hawks this weekend as the women’s team looks to win its fourth straight MAAC Indoor Championship.
