Monmouth Men & Women Atop the Leaderboard After Day One of the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

New York, NY – After one day of competition at the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, both the men’s and women’s teams from Monmouth University have the lead.    

On the Men’s side, Monmouth currently has 46 points and Manhattan sits in second with 45 points.  In third place is Iona with 43 points, followed by Rider in fourth place with 32 points.  Saint Peter’s is in fifth place with 11 points, Canisius in sixth place with 9 points,  Siena in seventh with 5 points, and Marist in eighth place with 4 points.

Rider University got on the board first on the men’s side when Tyree Adams took first place in the Men’s Long Jump with a distance of 7.55m.  Manhattan’s Love Litzell surpassed the 20m mark in the Men’s Weight Throw with a distance of 20.11 to capture first place.  Jermaine Lascelles from Saint Peter’s cleared 2.14m in the Men’s High Jump and took home first place in the event.  The Iona Men’s DMR team that included Liam Dee, Robert Kirsty, Ross Wightman, and Chartt Miller took first place with a time of 9:57.39.

Iona’s Kieran Clements also took first place and set a new championship record in the Men’s 5000m when he crossed the finish line in a time of 14:15.47.

On the women’s side, Monmouth currently leads with 60.50 points while Rider sits in second with 45 points. In third place is Manhattan with 33.50 points and Iona in fourth place with 23 points. In fifth place is Quinnipiac with 13 points, sixth place is Siena with 7 points, seventh place is Canisius with 6 points, eighth place is Marist with 4 points, and Saint Peter’s sits in ninth place with 0 points. 

Monmouth’s Jordan Wildermuth took first in the Women’s Weight Throw with a mark of 17.57m.  Casey Sturts, also from Monmouth, outjumped last year’s champion Marisa Robbins from Manhattan, with a mark of 3.75m.  Monmouth’s DMR team of Danielle Leavitt, Chandi Piiru, Tionna Garner, & Jenna Cupp took first place in a time of 11:52.44. In the Women’s Long Jump, Rider’s Asia Young finished with a mark of 6.01m and took home first place.  Also for Rider, Megan McGarrity finished in first place in the Women’s 5000m with a time of 17:29.71. 

Quinnipiac’s sprinter Jessica Lee broke her own championship record from last year in the Women’s 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.56.  Meanwhile, Rider’s Tierra Taylor and Manhattan’s Paige Chapman also broke a meet record finishing the Women’s 6om Dash in a time of 7.57.

Day two of the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships kicks-off tomorrow at 4:30pm with the Women’s Shot Put.  The entire 2017 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships will be streamed live on MAAC.TV
