Quinnipiac University Clinched its Third Consecutive MAAC Women’s Basketball Regular Season Championship

EDISON, NJ – Quinnipiac University secured its third-straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and clinched the number one overall seed in the 2017 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship.

The Bobcats finished the season (24-6, 17-3 MAAC) and plays their first game in the MAAC Championship on Friday, March 3 at 1:00 p.m. against either No. 8 Canisius College or No. 9 Niagara University.

Quinnipiac wrapped up the regular season with a 62-49 victory over Canisius on Saturday, February 25, to extend its winning streak to seven games in a row. The seven-game streak marked the Bobcats second winning streak of at least seven games this season, their first came from December 21-January 16.

Over the course of the last three seasons Quinnipiac has compiled a 54-6 record in conference play. That is the best three-year mark in MAAC play since Marist College went 53-3 from 2011-2014. The Bobcats have become the first Women’s Basketball team to capture three consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championships since Marist won 11 in a row from 2004-2014.

This season Quinnipiac received national attention topping the charts in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. From January 4-17, the Bobcats placed No. 2 overall in the poll, their highest rank in program history. Quinnipiac ranked in the Top 10 of the poll for 11 consecutive weeks this season (November 15-January 24).  

The Bobcats are first in the MAAC in scoring offense (68.1 ppg), scoring defense (55.9 ppg), scoring margin (+12.1), field goal percentage defense (35.6%), blocks (5.0 bpg), assists (16.4 apg), steals (11.8 spg), turnover margin (+6.17), and assist/turnover ratio (1.10).

The entire MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship is set to stream live on MAAC.TV and the ESPN Family Networks. The first and quarterfinal rounds of the Championship will stream live on MAAC.TV free of charge. The semifinals and finals will air live on the ESPN family networks.
