Junior Erica Evans recorded five goals and seven points in a 23-12 win over Duquesne Wednesday afternoon, adding five ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. The midfielder matched her goal (5) and point (7) totals from Wednesday in an 18-10 win over Michigan from Michigan Stadium Sunday afternoon. Evans scored three goals in a 5-0 run that gave the Griffs an 8-4 first half lead, while also recording two goals in another 4-0 run in the second half to put the game away for good. Evans totaled five ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers in the win.

Rebecca VanLaeken, Canisius

Rebecca VanLaeken went 2-0 on the week with wins over Duquesne and Michigan. In a 23-12 win over Duquesne on Wednesday, VanLaeken made 12 saves along with one groundball. In an 18-10 win over Michigan Sunday, Vanlaeken stopped 13 shots, while adding one ground ball. The goalkeeper totaled 25 saves overall on 21 goals, while posting a 11.12 GAA and a .543 saves percentage.
Rookie of the Week
Emily Sandford, Manhattan
Fr., M, Floral Park, NY/Sacred Heart
Freshman Emily Sandford recorded five points in the Jaspers’ 16-3 win over Saint Mary’s on Sunday. She had four goals, including the game-winner, while also tallying an assist. Sandford scored on all four of her shot attempts and went 2-2 on free position opportunities. On Wednesday against Lafayette, she picked up two ground balls and registered a draw control.
