Siena’s Nico Clareth scored 27 points off the bench for the Saints, all coming in the second half to give Siena an 89-85 win over top-seeded Monmouth University. Clareth connected on seven three-pointers to help the Saints erase a 39-25 halftime deficit. The seven made three-pointers are the third most in a MAAC Tournament game.
Siena scored 64 points in the second half to advance to the 2017 MAAC Championship Game. Javion Ogunyemi scored 21 points including key free-throw down the stretch. Marquis Wright scored 20 points and dished out eight assists for the Saints.
Siena advances to the MAAC Championship Game for the first time since 2010, where they won its third consecutive MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship. The Saints will play the winner of Saint Peter’s and Iona.
For Monmouth, Justin Robinson led the Hawks with 22 points. The Hawks closed the first half on a 9-0 run and shot 55.2% from the field in the first half. The Saints were 19-of-30 in the second half, shooting 63.3 % from the field to defeat the top seeded Hawks.
