No.1 Quinnipiac and No. 2 Siena to Meet in 2017 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Final

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – With a 4-0 win over fourth seeded Fairfield University, Quinnipiac University will compete for its fourth-straight MAAC Women's Tennis Championship. The Bobcats are the back-to-back-to-back champions and will look to bring home another championship tomorrow morning, when the Bobcats take on second seeded Siena College at 10am
The Saints find themselves in the championship final for the first time since 2006, the year in which they won its lone MAAC Women's Tennis Championship. The Saints defeated third seeded Marist College 4-2 in the second semifinals matchup of the championship.
For the Bobcats, 2017 MAAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year, Layla Rodriguez, along with her fellow unanimous All-MAAC First teammate at third doubles, Jennifer Lu defeated Diana Prinos/Shelby Vertula, 6-1. The Bobcats clinched the doubles point when 2017 MAAC Player of the Year, Sitilia Rencheli and Kelsi Oliphant, the unanimous All-MAAC First Team duo at number two doubles, knocked off Karen McKeough and Emily Lombardi, 6-2. The Bobcats would sweep singles play with Jennifer Lu, Rachel Horton and Sydney Young earning victories at number two, three and four singles, respectively.
After losing the doubles point to the Red Foxes, the Saints rebounded to take victories at number one, four and fifth singles. All-MAAC Second Team selection Ali Garrity defeated Chloe Lant, 6-3, 6-2 to earn the victory. Natalie Weaver defeated Sophia Moeller, 6-1, 7-5 at fourth singles and Rina Sakai beat Callie Morlock at fifth singles, 6-1, 7-5.
The Saints will look to avenge its lone loss of the season, a year in which they went 17-1 overall and 6-1 in the MAAC, with that one loss being a 6-1 defeat to the Bobcats on April 9.
Match time for Quinnipiac and Siena is set for 10am.
