Quinnipiac University Wins Fourth Consecutive MAAC Women's Tennis Championship

WEST WINDSOR, NJ –  Quinnipiac University defeated Siena College by a score of 4-2 in the 2017 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship Final to claim its fourth consecutive MAAC Championship.

The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead when 2017 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Layla Rodriguez and Jennifer Lu defeated Anessa Leyva and Julia Goehner 6-1 at third doubles. 2017 MAAC Player of the Year, Sitilia Rencheli and Kelsi Oliphant took a 6-4 victory at second doubles to earn the point for the Bobcats.

Lohaphaisan took a 6-2, 6-2 decision at sixth singles to earn the first singles point for Quinnipiac. Jennifer Lu was named the 2017 MAAC Women's Tennis Most Outstanding Player. Lu picked up a 6-0, 7-6(2) at second singles as well as the victory with Rodriguez at third doubles. Sydney Young clinched the championship for the Bobcats with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at fourth singles.

Seniors Rachel Horton, Kelsi Oliphant, Sitilia Rencheli and Sydney Young complete their careers as four-time MAAC Champions. During their four-year championship run, the Bobcats went 38-0 in conference play (30-0 in the regular season, 8-0 in MAAC Championships)

Quinnipiac University will represent the conference at the 2017 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The 2017 NCAA Selection Show takes place on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:30 pm and will be streamed live on NCAA.com
