Monmouth University Wins Back to Back MAAC Men's Tennis Championships

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – Monmouth University defeated Marist College by a score of 4-1 in the 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship Final to claim its second straight MAAC Championship.
Monmouth took the doubles point when the duo of Filipek/Gomez defeated the Marist duo Chanthalangsy/Fletcher 6-2. The Hawks duo of Pipoli/Giuffrida defeated Marist's duo of Restrepo/Massa 6-6, 7-3 at second doubles to head into singles competition 1-0.
Pipoli claimed victory at first singles over Restrepo 6-2, 6-2. Sergio Martinez won his sixth singles matchup 6-4, 6-1. Filipek clinched the match for the Hawks when he defeated Rudolf Kurz 7-6(4) and then 6-4 in the second set to give the Hawks their second-straight MAAC Men's Tennis Championship.
Monmouth University will represent the conference at the 2017 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The 2017 NCAA Selection Show takes place on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:00 pm and will be streamed live on NCAA.com
