Hankins, Williams & Skinner Earn Final Softball Weekly Awards of 2017

Player of the Week
Courtney Hankins, Fairfield

Courtney Hankins finished the week with a .545 batting average with 10 RBI in a 3-1 week for the Stags. The sophomore drove home at least one run in all four games and registered seven RBI in the doubleheader split with Quinnipiac. After losing the first game of the Quinnipiac doubleheader and needing a win for a tournament spot, the Stags fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of game two. Hankins tied the game in the bottom of the first with a two-run single. After Quinnipiac regained the lead with a run in the third, Hankins once again tied the game with an RBI single which started a seven-run inning that led the team to a win. She posted four RBI in the first Quinnipiac game which included a three-run double to turn a 5-0 game into a closer 5-3 score. One day earlier, Hankins delivered three RBI in a sweep of Saint Peter's.
Pitcher of the Week
Nicole Williams, Manhattan
Fr., P, Ansonia, CT/St. Joseph's
Williams finished the regular season with three road victories over Fairleigh Dickinson, Quinnipiac and Iona. Against Quinnipiac on Saturday, she tossed a six-inning complete game, giving up just two runs on two hits. Williams recorded 13 strikeouts in the game, including seven in a row, as she struck out the side in both the third and the fourth. She then outdueled Iona's Alana Evans on Sunday, holding the Gaels to one unearned run on three hits (two of which were infield singles) in Manhattan's 7-1 win. Williams fanned 10 in the contest, and she struck out the side in the seventh. Overall, she notched 26 strikeouts in 17.2 innings while posting a 1.98 ERA in the three games.
Rookie of the Week
Marnie Skinner, Iona
Fr., INF, Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake
Freshman Marnie Skinner ensured the Gaels at least a share of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference MAAC Regular Season title. In game two of a doubleheader against Manhattan, Skinner went seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit as part of the Maroon & Gold's 1-0 victory. Skinner faced just two batters above the minimum, inducing a balanced eight fly outs and seven ground outs.
