2017 MAAC Women's Rowing Championship Launches Friday

WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Rowing Championship will launch this Friday, May 12, at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, NJ. The championship event will showcase competitors from five MAAC institutions and five associate member. MAAC schools include Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, and Marist College. The five associate members are Drake University, Jacksonville University, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, and Stetson University.

The Jacksonville women's rowing team is looking to capture its fourth consecutive MAAC Women's Rowing Championship. In 2016, the Dolphins tallied 56 points to win their third MAAC Women's Rowing Championship in the program's history and earned the MAAC's automatic qualifier bid to the NCAA Rowing Championships. Jacksonville won all three categories of weekly four out of the seven weeks during the regular season. At the SIRA Regatta, Jacksonville finished in second place in the Women's Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four.

The Knecht Cup had the following MAAC schools competing, Canisius, Fairfield, Jacksonville, Marist, Robert Morris, and Sacred Heart. Three MAAC schools Canisius, Fairfield, and Marist made it to the finals of the Women's Varsity Four.

Another event that showcased multiple MAAC competitors was the Sacred Heart Invitational, hosted by Sacred Heart University. In the event, the Varsity Eight Boat of Scared Heart bested Iona and Manhattan with a time 8:01.25. The Varsity Four boat also took first place for the Pioneers coming in with a time of 9:25.10.

In The Black Rock Cup, in Buffalo, NY, four MAAC schools competed against each other. These schools were Canisius, Fairfield, Jacksonville, and Marist. Jacksonville won all six races they competed in. Marist was able to beat out Fairfield in the Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four. They also beat Canisius in the Second Varsity Eight. The Golden Griffins and the Red Foxes both swept one week of weekly awards this season.

The heat races of the championship begin at 9:00 AM, and the Finals begin at 12:10 PM.
