WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Monmouth University Women's Lacrosse head coach Eileen Ghent has been selected to lead the U-19 Irish national team at the FIL World Championships in Peterborough, Ontario in August of 2019.
“It is an honor to be a part of Ireland's first ever Women's U19 team,” said Ghent. “Ireland Lacrosse's focus on positively spreading the sport of lacrosse within Ireland is something I'm passionate about and excited to be a part of. I look forward to helping create, develop and coach a group of motivated young women to represent Ireland at the highest level. I instantly connected with the mission of Ireland Lacrosse and the vision of the Board of Directors. Everyone involved has such tremendous pride in Ireland and wants only the best for their National Teams. I am thankful to have this opportunity and am eager to get started!”
Ghent guided the Hawks to a (10-6) mark in conference play in her first two seasons at the helm. She led the Hawks to back-to-back postseason berths in her first two years as head coach and their first ever appearance in the MAAC Championship game (2016).
Ghent has been a member of the Monmouth coaching staff since 2011, when she joined the institution as an assistant coach. She was elevated to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2014 season. Ghent graduated from Rutgers University in 2011 where she served as a player/coach her junior and senior years.
“The experiences that I will have with Ireland will surely help me at Monmouth and vice-versa,” said Ghent. “The international game and competing at the highest level is something that I think will help me as a coach and my future teams.”
