Marist's Kelliher Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Softball Team

AUSTIN, TX – Marist College's junior outfielder Gabrielle Kelliher was named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Softball Second Team at Designated Player for her excellence in academics and athletics. Kelliher, a biology & medical technology major, posted a 3.90 GPA and is a two-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team.

The junior hit .321 (51-159) with eight home runs, 30 RBI, and 32 runs scored. She recorded a .535 slugging percentage, .385 on-base percentage, and stole eight bases on 11 attempts this season. The East Brunswick, NJ native was named the MAAC Player of the Week on April 4.

Kelliher ranked 10th in the MAAC in slugging percentage, ninth in runs scored, tied for seventh in home runs, and ninth in total bases (85). She was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Second Team, and CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

About the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Team:

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.

Currently, CoSIDA sponsors Academic All-America programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program.

The Academic All-America program is comprised of four divisional teams, with student-athletes being honored separately in Division I, Division II and Division III. The College Division team is comprised of NAIA, Canadian and two-year student-athletes. This format began in the 2011-12 academic year. Previously there were two teams - University Division (D1) and a College Division (all others).
