Four MAAC Student-Athletes Named to 2017 IWLCA Senior All-Star Teams

EDISON, NJ – Four Metro Atlantics Athletic Conference (MAAC) student-athletes have been selected to play in the 2017 Division I Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Senior All-Star Game, as announced by the organization.

Fairfield University attacker Alex Fehmel and midfielder Riley Hellstein are joined by Marist College goalkeeper Abigail Witczak and midfielder Natalie Bonaroti, who were named to the 2017 IWLCA DI North Senior All-Star Team.

Fehmel was named to the 2017 All-MAAC First Team for the second-straight season. She tallied a career-best 54 points (44 goals, 10 assists) in 18 games, all starts. Fehmel recorded 40 ground balls, 39 draw controls, and 29 caused turnovers. The attacker was sixth in the MAAC in goals scored, tied for fifth in goals per game, seventh in points, tied for the fourth-most game-winning goals (four), 10th in ground balls per game (2.22), fourth in caused turnovers, and third in free-position goals (15). Fehmel was named MAAC Offensive Player the Week on April 17.

Hellstein earned the 2017 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year honor and was selected to the All-Tournament team for her efforts in the 2017 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. The senior tallied 73 points (56 goals, 17 assists), the third-most in the MAAC. She was second in the conference in goals per game (3.29), second in points per game (4.29), third in goals scored, tied for second in game-winning goals (four), and tied for first in free-position goals (19). She was a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team at attack, was named to the IWLCA Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team, and took home MAAC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (February 27 & March 27).

Bonaroti was named to the 2017 MAAC All-Academic Team and tabbed MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on February 27. The midfielder totaled a career-high 46 points (38 goals, eight assists) in 19 games, all starts for the Red Foxes. She shot 46.3% from the field, recorded 24 ground balls, 21 draw controls, and 19 caused turnovers in her senior campaign.

Witczak claimed the 2017 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year award, was named to the All-MAAC First Team, and All-ECAC Second Team. She had a league-best .498 save percentage was atop the league in saves (210) and saves per game (11.05). She had the third-best goals against average in the conference (11.13) and was tied for the fifth-most ground balls (44). Witczak was a three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week (March 27, April 10 & April 24).

About the IWLCA Senior All-Star Teams:

The IWLCA has announced the rosters for the 2017 Senior All-Star games for Division I, II, and III. The 44 players selected in each Division have been divided into two teams: North and South. The Senior All-Star games will be held on Tierney Field at US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. on Saturday, June 3, 2017. The Division I teams will play the first game at 11:30 am, the Division II game will follow at 12:45 pm, and the Division III teams will cap off the event with their game at 2:00 pm. Admission for all three games is free of charge. The games will also be web-streamed live on IWLCA-tv.com.
