MAAC Teams Achieve Public Recognition Awards for Academic Success

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Division I (DI)student-athletes continue to accomplish unparalleled levels of academic excellence based on the most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data.
The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term to provide a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2012-13, 13-14, 14-15, and 15-16 academic years.
All eleven MAAC schools had at least one team that posted multi-year APR's in the top 10% of all squads in each sport. Siena College led all MAAC institutions with eight teams. Following Siena, with six teams represented is Fairfield University, Iona College, and Marist College. Additionally, Men's Golf and Women's Cross Country programs led all MAAC sports with five recipients each.
“Student-athlete welfare is a buzz word in the college sports community and there is no better measure of a Division I schools' commitment to their athletes than the NCAA's APR success, particularly the number of MAAC teams in the top 10% of their sport,” notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “I congratulate all the student-athletes, coaches and administrators whose hard work in the classroom and support has led to this recognition.”
Every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year, similar to a report card. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention, and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
