Kirui & Sulliman Earn Student Athlete of the Week Honors

Gilbert Kirui, Iona College
Junior | Men's Outdoor Track & Field | Keringet, Kenya
Junior Gilbert Kirui of the Iona College men's outdoor track & field qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the 10,000-meter race on Thursday, May 25. Competing in Lexington, KY at Kentucky University against the top competitors in the northeast, Kirui placed seventh clocking in at a personal best 29:59.03. By finishing within the top-12, Kirui earned his ticket to the Eugene, OR for the NCAA Championship 10,000-meter final on Wednesday, June 7. In the same race, senior Andrew Tario represented the Maroon & Gold placing 34th in a time of 31:06.16. Joining Kirui at the NCAA Championship are senior Chartt Miller and junior Johannes Motschmann. Miller took 10th place overall in the 5,000-meter race and Motschmann finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship begins on Wednesday. June 7 and runs through Saturday, June 10.
Scarlett Sulliman, Fairfield University
Senior | Women's Lacrosse | Rye, NY
One of three captains for Fairfield women's lacrosse, Scarlett Sulliman had her best offensive season as a senior. The midfielder started all 18 games for the Stags, tallying a career-high 41 points off 29 goals and 12 assists. She also ranked second on the team with 37 groundballs and had the third most caused turnovers at 19.The Rye, N.Y. native graduated with a 3.45 GPA while studying Marketing, and was a three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic Team.
