Marist Baseball Set to Face Florida in Gainesville Regional on Friday

No. 4 Marist College:

·       Marist College finished the 2017 regular season (32-21, 16-8 MAAC). The Red Foxes enter the NCAA tournament (7-3) in their last 10 games and went a perfect (3-0) en route to the 2017 MAAC Baseball Championship.

·       Marist claimed its sixth MAAC Baseball Championship, the most among current MAAC member institutions. (Le Moyne captured eight MAAC Baseball Championships, but is a former MAAC member).

·       The Red Foxes made their eighth appearance in the MAAC Baseball Championship round, the second-most among MAAC member institutions behind Siena College (10). They clinched a berth in the MAAC Baseball Championship for the third-straight season.

·       Marist ranks second in the league in hitting (.278), fourth in slugging percentage (.377), second in on-base percentage (.375), first in runs scored (323), third in hits (488), third in RBI (270), third in doubles (83), fourth in home runs (27), fourth in total bases (662), second in walks (239), fifth in hit by pitches (49), first in stolen bases (98), and first in stolen bases attempted (118).

·       Red Foxes' pitching is second in the MAAC in ERA (3.92), first in strikeouts (435), second in wins (32), and second in saves (15). They allowed the fewest runs (227), and home runs (14) in the conference, second fewest earned runs (197), and third fewest hits (431).  

·       Marist ranks 10th in the nation in steals per game (1.85), 14th in steals (98), and 37th in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (8.7).

·       Red Foxes' Chris Tracz is set coach in his first NCAA Tournament game as head coach. Tracz appeared in the NCAA Tournament as a student-athlete. He played for Marist from 2001-05.  

Marist vs. Florida:

·       The Red Foxes and Gators meet for the first time in program history.

·       Florida enters the matchup ranked as the No. 3 team in the nation.

·       The Gators finished the 2017 regular season (42-16, 21-9 SEC).

o   Fifth in ERA (2.78)

o   Second lowest batting average against (.206)

o   Fourth in innings pitched (87.1)

o   Second in strikeouts (86)

·       Tony Romanelli, Jr., Pitcher

o   Third in saves (nine)

o   Recorded three saves in the MAAC Tournament

MAAC NCAA Tournament Notes:

·       The last MAAC team to win a NCAA Tournament game was No. 4 Siena College in 2014. The Saints defeated No. 2 Dallas Baptist, 9-8, in 10 innings.

·       Marist's last appearance in the NCAA Tournament came in 2009. The Red Foxes went (0-2) and faced No. 1 Florida State and No. 3 Ohio State.

·       The Red Foxes are the only team in MAAC Baseball history to win at least one NCAA Tournament game in three consecutive seasons (2000, 2001, 2002).   

·       Marist has three wins in the NCAA Tournament, the most among current MAAC member institutions.
