Iona Water Polo Leads Nation in GPA; 66 MAAC Student-Athletes Named to ACWPC All-Academic List

EDISON, NJ – Iona College's Water Polo team led the nation with an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.63 for the 2016-17 academic year, as announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). A total of 66 MAAC Water Polo student-athletes were named to the ACWPC All-Academic list.
Iona finished tied with Washington & Jefferson University for the top overall spot in the nation with a 3.63 GPA. Marist College finished with the seventh best cumulative GPA (3.45) and Wagner College followed with the eighth highest GPA (3.43). Villanova University cracked the top 15, with the 12th best GPA (3.37) and St. Francis Brooklyn rounded out MAAC Water Polo member institutions on the leaderboard in 39th with a mark of 3.08.
66 MAAC Water Polo student-athletes received ACWPC All-Academic recognition for the 2016-17 campaign, all eight MAAC Water Polo members registered at least three student-athletes on the list. Marist placed 15 student-athletes on the All-Academic list, the most among MAAC Water Polo member institutions. Wagner followed with 14, Iona and Villanova were tied for the third-most MAAC student-athletes on the list with nine apiece.
St. Francis Brooklyn recorded eight student-athletes on the ACWPC All-Academic list, the fifth-most by a MAAC Water Polo member institution. Virginia Military Institute and Siena College tied with four student-athletes on the list, and La Salle University rounded out MAAC Water Polo members with three student-athletes who received honors.
