Four MAAC Student-Athletes Named to 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

AUSTIN, TX – Four MAAC Student-Athletes were named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as announced by the organization today.

Manhattan College senior Stefan Hoeller and Rider University senior Johnathan Jackson were named to the 2016-17 Academic All-America Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team. Iona College senior Cassandra Gill and Quinnipiac University senior Niamh Ashe both earned 2016-17 Academic All-America Division I Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team honors.

Hoeller graduated from Manhattan with a degree in Finance and finished his senior year with a 3.98 GPA. The Bergisch, Germany native placed first in the 400 meter hurdles in the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Hoeller also finished sixth in both the 110 meter hurdles and pole vault at the Outdoor Championships. In the 2017 MAAC Indoor Championship, he placed third in the pole vault and fourth in the 60 meter hurdles.

Jackson graduated from Rider as a dual major in Human Resources and Health Care Management. He compiled a 3.93 GPA in his senior year in Lawrenceville, NJ. Jackson was a member of the 2017 MAAC Men's Indoor Track & Field team, the first-ever in program history. The Roselle, NJ native finished first in the 800 meter at the Indoor Championships and earned a pair of gold medals at the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 4x800 meter relay and 800 meter outdoors.

Gill graduated from Iona with a degree in Information Systems and registered a perfect 4.00 GPA in her senior year. She was one of eight members of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team to post a 4.00 GPA. The Wyoming, PA native earned a pair of gold medals at the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She won both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events. In the fall, Gill placed 15th in the 2016 MAAC Cross Country Championship and was a member of Gaels championship team.

Ashe graduated from Quinnipiac with a degree in Nursing and tallied a 3.66 GPA in her senior campaign. The East Islip, NY native is a four-time All-MAAC performer in Cross Country. Ashe was a member of the Bobcats Cross Country team that finished second at the 2017 MAAC Cross Country Championships. She finished in sixth individually at the MAAC Cross Country Championships with a time of 21:41.23.

About the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams:

Of the 45 Academic All-America® Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team members, 26 have grade-point averages of 3.9 or higher, including nine who have a perfect 4.0 GPA. Of the 46 Academic All-America® Division I Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team members, 34 have grade-point averages of 3.9 or higher including 14 who have a perfect 4.0 GPA.
