MAAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR KRISTEN TURNER HEADLINES 2006 ALL-MAAC WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM

Edison, NJ - Siena College senior forward Kristen Turner has been selected as the 2006 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and headlines this season’s All-MAAC First Team.

Turner earned this award after ranking sixth in the MAAC in scoring during the regular season. She recorded 10 goals and one assist for 21 points this season for the Saints.

Joining Turner with First Team All-MAAC honors is Fairfield University’s Brett Maron, the 2006 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Maron, a junior goalkeeper for the Stags, has made 83 saves this season in over 1660 minutes of work and currently owns a league-best 0.87 goals against average.

Fairfield’s Casey Frobey took the 2006 MAAC Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman forward ranked third on the MAAC scoring list during the regular season with 12 goals and three assists for 27 points.

Also earning first team selections are MT Church, Betsy Nyman, Alex Caram and Ahna Johnson from Fairfield. Loyola College’s Sarra Moller and Courtney Arikian, Manhattan College’s Katie Kuntz, and Niagara University’s Emily Montgomery and Brittany Bisnott round out the selections on the first team.

The All-MAAC Second Team consists of five student-athletes from Loyola: Caitlin McCusker, Brynn McGrath, Lea Day, Kaitlin Klar and Carolyn Kennington. They are joined by Jenna Gage from Canisius College, Frobey from Fairfield, Eleri Earnshaw and Sara Monarch from Iona, Stephanie Gartley from Niagara, and Katie Goodwin, Lauren Stys, and Amy Loughridge from Siena.

Headlining the squad are Frobey, Adrienne Boyer and Chrissie Sidie from Fairfield, Laura McCoy from Iona, Amanda Meehan, Colleen Kinealy, Christina Gomez and Brittany Henderson from Loyola, Alexandra Konneker from Manhattan, Maria Baez from Marist College, and Alyssa Thayer from Siena.

Loyola head coach John Byford was named the 2006 Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year. He has led the Greyhounds to an overall record of 10-6-2, including an 8-1 mark in the MAAC, en route to earning the top seed in the 2006 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship.
