Marina Lizarazu Continues Basketball Journey Professionally Overseas
ZAMORA, SPAIN – The Maroon & Gold women's professional basketball legacy continues to expand overseas. Iona alum
Marina Lizarazu '17, the 2016 MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Player, will be playing organized ball with the C.D. Zamarat program coached by Lucas Fernández Peces.
The team is based out of Zamora, Spain, which is in the northwest of Spain, near the border of Portugal. The city is roughly a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Madrid.
C.D. Zamarat play with the Spanish Division I league, meaning that Lizarazu will be matching wits against fellow former Gael standout Joy Adams. In her second full season overseas,
Adams will be playing with Club Al-Qazeres.
Zamarat finished last season with a 9-17 record.
When asked about continuing her basketball Journey in Spain, Lizarazu commented: "I'm very happy to sign with C.D Zamarat and I'm thankful for this new opportunity to play basketball at the highest level in the best league of Spain."
"I'm very excited to start this new journey back in my country. I hope I can help the team play at the highest level to be able to compete with the best teams in the country."
