Three MAAC Volleyball Programs Receive AVCA Team Academic Honors

LEXINGTON, KY –
Three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball programs were honored with the 2016-17 American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced by the organization on Monday, July 24. The Volleyball programs at Manhattan College, Marist College, and Rider University were all honored for its academic excellence this past year.
 
Manhattan and Marist were tied for second in the MAAC with eight student-athletes on the 2016 MAAC Volleyball All-Academic Team. Rider placed six student-athletes on the 2016 MAAC All-Academic Team. A total of 822 teams earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for 2016-17, which broke last year’s total of 764 for the new all-time high.
 
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school Volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
