10 MAAC Tennis Programs & 47 Student-Athletes Earn ITA Academic Recognition
EDISON, NJ – A total of 10 MAAC Tennis Programs and 47 student-athletes received Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) academic honors, as announced by the organization.
Four MAAC Men’s Tennis programs and six Women’s programs earned the ITA All-Academic Team award. On the Men’s side, Fairfield University, Marist College, Quinnipiac University, and Saint Peter’s University were honored for their success in the classroom. The Women’s Tennis programs at Fairfield, Marist, Monmouth University, Quinnipiac, Saint Peter’s, and Siena College received the ITA All-Academic Team Award.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).
A total of 47 MAAC Tennis student-athletes claimed the ITA Scholar-Athlete award. 16 Men’s Tennis student-athletes and 31 Women’s Tennis student-athletes received recognition in 2016-17. The Marist’s Men’s team had a MAAC-high six student-athletes capture ITA Scholar-Athlete awards. On the Women’s side, Quinnipiac, Saint Peter’s, and Siena all had six student-athletes that were honored with Scholar-Athlete awards, which tied for the most in the conference.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
