Larry Lembo & Donna Seybold Named 2017 Manhattan College’s MAAC Basketball Honor Roll Inductees
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced Manhattan College’s institutional honorees to be inducted in the MAAC Honor Roll, in which honorees will be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 16.
Each member institution of the MAAC honors one male and one female from its basketball “family” as part of the 2017 induction class. A dinner event will be on Saturday, September 16 at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize the Honor Roll inductees.
Each honoree will be profiled in the game program for the 2018 MAAC Basketball Championships, and will also be featured in a video display at “The MAAC Experience.”
Larry Lembo ‘65
Larry Lembo graduated as Manhattan’s all-time leading scorer (1,443), a distinction he held for 13 years. Lembo’s career scoring average of 21.9 points per game is second-best in program history and his 1,443 career points are currently the ninth-most in program history. He averaged a school-record 25.7 points per game in 1963-64, then tallied 23.5 points per contest during the 1964-65 season.
The Jaspers reached the quarterfinals of the NIT in 1964-65, after they defeated Texas Western in the first round. Lembo was selected by the New York Knicks in the fourth round of the 1965 NBA Draft before going on to a distinguished career as a college basketball official. He went on to work four NCAA Final Fours as a referee (1980, 1983, 1988, 1989). Lembo was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985.
Donna Seybold ‘90
Donna Seybold is one of three student-athletes in program history to play on two MAAC Championship teams (1987 & 1990), she is the only player to score in two NCAA Tournament games. Seybold was named MVP of the 1990 MAAC Tournament after she recorded 17 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds against Holy Cross in the championship game.
The 1989-90 Metropolitan Player of the Year, Seybold, was the fifth 1,000-point scorer in program history, and she currently ranks ninth with 1,217 career points. She was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.
