Lawrenceville, NJ – Former Rider University women's basketball standout
Robin Perkins has signed a contract to play professionally overseas for BBC Résidence Walferdange in Luxembourg. The team plays in the top league in Luxembourg and is part of the Federation Luxembourgeoise de Basetball (FLBB).
"I want to thank everyone that has been involved in my college career at Rider," Perkins said. "I am extremely excited to embark on this new journey as a professional athlete in Luxembourg this upcoming season."
Perkins is coming off a record-breaking campaign that saw her become the first Bronc in program history to be honored as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year. In 2016-17, she was the only unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection and she landed on the first team for the second year in a row. The postseason accolades did not stop there as she was also tabbed First Team All-MET by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
During her senior season, Perkins averaged 15.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in 25 starts, her numbers in conference play were even more impressive as she poured in over 16 points per game. She shot 42.6 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from three-point range. Perkins knocked down 52 triples, the sixth most in the MAAC this season.
Perkins ranked fourth in the MAAC in scoring and 11th in three-point field goal percentage. On December 30, she scored a career-high 33 points against Quinnipiac. The 33-point outburst was the fourth-most points scored in a game by a MAAC Women's Basketball Player this season and gave her over 1,000 career points. She was named MAAC Player of the Week twice and she also earned Met Basketball Writers Association Division I Basketball Player of the Week once last season. She became the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 career points and she ends her career 10 points shy of 10th on the program's all-time scoring list.
"We are very excited and proud of Robin," Rider Head Coach
Lynn Milligan said. "This has been a big goal of hers to become a professional athlete. She has accomplished it with hard work and determination. This season has given her the confidence through adversity and her success to able to reach her goal. She will no doubt represent Rider Women's Basketball to the fullest."
The Broncs are coming off arguably the most successful season in program history, racking up 24 wins and earning the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament. Picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, Rider posted an 8-2 mark both on the road and at home in conference play. The team swept eight MAAC opponents during the regular season and was ranked for four weeks in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll.
"It was not at all easy, but my coaches, teammates and competitors helped me to elevate my game so that I could play at the next level," Perkins added. "This season at Rider has truly been nothing short of a blessing being able to make program history multiple times during the year. It was a privilege to be around such an amazing group of people who always had the team's best interest in mind. This is a great opportunity to represent myself, my family and my alma mater as a professional athlete."
