EDISON, NJ – Seven former Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) student-athletes have been named the 2017-18 MAAC Victory Scholars. Manhattan College’s Caitlin Bricketto and Maeve Parahus, Niagara University’s Tiffany Corselli, Monmouth University’s Jasmine Walker, Saint Peter’s University’s Dominic Diaz and Siena College’s Meghan Donohue and Kristen Bromley were selected as Victory Scholars, as announced by Sport Changes Life.

Parahus finished her Jaspers career as a three-time member of the MAAC All-Academic team. She appeared in all 121 games during her time in Riverdale. She is the 12th player in program history to record 100 made three-pointers.

Corselli, a two-time MAAC All-Academic team member, recorded six three-pointers in the 2016 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship opening round game against Canisius College, one shy of the conference’s all-time postseason record. In her senior season, she finished third on the Purple Eagles with 8.0 points per game.

Donohue played and started in every game during her career at Siena. She finished her career with 1,223 points, the 14th-most in program history. Donahue was named team captain each of her last three seasons and graduated with a degree in Management.

Walker was named as one of the two MAAC Honorees for the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Walker, a 2016 graduate of Monmouth, earned her Masters of Business Administration degree  with a 3.74 grade point average. Walker is a three-time MAAC All-Academic team member and graduated with the highest degree in economics and finance at Monmouth, earning magna cum laude honors.

Bromley and Diaz are the first MAAC Golfers named Rory Mcllory Victory Scholars.
Bromley represented Siena and the MAAC at the eighth annual NCAA Career in Sports Forum in early June. She recorded three consecutive third place individual finishes at the MAAC Golf Championships in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Bromley was a member of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Golf Championship team and took 10th place as an individual.

Diaz is the first student-athlete from Saint Peter’s University to be named a Victory Scholar. Diaz was a member of the 2016 MAAC Men’s Golf Championship team that went on to compete in the NCAA Austin Regional. He was named to the 2017 MAAC Golf All-Academic team.

Bricketto is one of two student-athletes in the Dubai Business Internships (DBI) Victory Scholars program, a 10-month business training internship in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  Bricketto graduated Manhattan in 2015 with a degree in marketing. She was a four-year letter winner in tennis and served as team captain during her senior season.

The Rory Foundation partnered up with Sport Changes Life to sponsor the program. The Rory Foundation was established in 2013 to offer support to charities with a special meaning and purpose for Rory. Since its creation, the Rory Foundation has provided generous support to charities such as the Cancer Fund for Children and Mencap NI.

The 25 Victory Scholars will embark on a life changing year of mentoring young people through sport in the communities of Northern Ireland and Ireland while studying for a Master’s Degree in a number of prestigious universities, while continuing to play the sport they love.

The Sport Changes Life Victory Scholar program began with its founding partner Ulster University in 2008. Since then the Victory Scholar program has grown in partnership with six universities across the island; Ulster University, National University of Ireland Galway, The University of Limerick, Trinity College Dublin, IT Carlow and Waterford IT. These university partners are key to the community outreach of the Victory Scholars who embed their positive influences within the communities they work in, all while using the skills and knowledge they have gained through their life experiences.

Sport Changes Life aims to raise the aspirations of young people through sporting excellence, vocational, and academic achievement, and personal development. Each year, new Victory Scholars are selected to help change the lives of young people and enable them to develop a global perspective and build life-long friendships with people and communities throughout Ireland.
