First Field Hockey Weekly Awards of 2017 Announced

Offensive Player of the Week
Kelly Hanna, Monmouth
Jr., F, Seaville, NJ/Ocean City (Rutgers)
 
Kelly Hanna started both games this weekend which saw the Monmouth field hockey team start 2-0. At Bucknell in the opening game of the year, the junior registered her first career hat trick in her second career multi-goal game to help lead the Blue and White to a commanding 6-2 victory. The second-year Hawk registered four shots over the weekend, all directed on target.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Laszlo, Monmouth
Sr., D, Rotterdam, Netherlands/ Rotterdams Montessori Lyceum
 
Julie Laszlo, the league’s reigning Player and Defensive Player of the Year, had a hand on both ends of the field to help Monmouth earn opening weekend wins over Bucknell and Kent State. The senior helped control the backfield, which only surrender three goals in 140 minutes, while assisting on three of the Hawks’ 11 markers over the weekend. The senior defender fired six shots with three reaching cage.
 
Rookie of the Week
Eline de Jong, Rider
Fr., D, Groningen, Netherlands/ Praedinius Gymnasium
 
Freshman Eline De Jong scored two goals in her collegiate debut as Rider topped Davidson, 5-1, last week. De Jong opened the score for the Broncs just under six minutes into the game and she added a second tally in the second half. Both of her goals came as she dribbled past the player marking her.
