Carrington & Flowers Named Student-Athletes of the Week

Carrington scored the game-winning goal in Manhattan thrilling 1-0 win over Navy in the season opener. Carrington redirected an errant shot with a left-footed blast that proved to be the difference in the 77th minute. For the Garden State native it is his fourth career goal, including the third game winner.
Erika Flowers

Women's Soccer
After not appearing in a game last season due to injury, graduate student Erika Flowers is making the most of her time returning to the pitch. On Sunday, Aug. 28 against LIU Brooklyn in Iona women’s soccer’s home-opener, Flowers scored her first goal of the season in overtime to give the Maroon & Gold their first win of season.
In the 100
th minute of the match, Flowers took in a pass on the right side of the 16-yard box from senior co-captain Marissa Dundas. While falling to the ground, the Patchogue, NY native pushed a grounded shot to the deep left side of the net.
Flower’s strike was her fourth career game-winning goal, tying for the fourth most all-time in program history. She has 30 career points, ranking fifth all-time in Iona history, and her 12 goals ties for sixth all-time.
The Gaels continue their six game home stand this Friday, Sept. 1 against the University at Albany at 3:00 PM. The game will be broadcasted live on ESPN3.
