Monmouth Field Hockey Ranked No. 25 in NFHCA Poll
GILBERT, AZ – For the first time in its 21-year history, the Monmouth University field hockey team is ranked in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Poll, coming in at number 25 the organization announced Tuesday.
"Being nationally ranked for the first time in our program's history is an honor," said head coach Carli Figlio. "We know the potential we have and we are really looking to start hitting our stride going into our last non-conference weekend against two very competitive teams. We are hoping that we have only begun to see our true potential as a field hockey team."
The Hawks head into this weekend's games against Drexel and Indiana at 5-2 after defeating Quinnipiac last Sunday for its third straight victory. Sophomore Annie Deusch's first career goal in the 46th minute proved to be the difference in a 3-2 win against the Bobcats.
The Hawks are ranked in the top-10 in five national statistical categories, including goals per game and scoring average (2nd; 4.86), points per game (3rd; 13.43), scoring margin (3rd; 3.14), and assists per game (6th; 3.71). Julie Laszlo and Rachel Konowal rank fourth and 12th with 1.14 and .86 assists per game, respectively, while Josephine van der Hoop's 1.14 goals per game ranks fifth nationally. Laszlo and van der Hoop are both in the top-10 in points per game.
Hawks return home next weekend for games against the Dragons on Friday, September 22nd at 4 p.m. before taking on the Hoosiers on Sunday, September 24th at noon, live on ESPN3.
