Quinnipiac's Jennifer Lu Set To Participate in Oracle ITA Masters
HAMDEN, Conn. - The reigning Most Outstanding Performer at the MAAC Championships,
Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California), has been chosen and will head to the 2017 Oracle/ITA Masters at the Malibu Racquet Club in Malibu, California from September 21-24. This is the second year in a row where a Quinnipiac women's tennis player has been chosen to represent the MAAC at the event.
This is the third year of existence for the Oracle/ITA Master's, as the tournament came into fruition in the 2015-16 season. The tournament hosts 32 elite men's and women's singles players, along with 32 mixed doubles teams competing for championships.
Each collegiate conference gets one player into the singles draw per gender. The player that is chosen is the returning conference player of the year. If the POY was a senior and graduated, then the highest returning player in the ITA Final National Rankings or highest returning Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) rated player would be chosen.
Former Quinnipiac women's tennis standout
Sitilia Rencheli earned the MAAC Player of the Year award, however since she graduated in May and Lu owned the highest returning Universal Tennis Rating (UTR), she was chosen instead.
Lu will begin play in the singles competition on Thursday, Sept. 21. Lu will also participate in mixed doubles competition with Marist's Javier Restrepo, who was the MAAC reigning Player of the Year from the men's side.
Lu finished last season with a 36-19 record, including 17 wins in singles play and 19 wins in doubles competition. Lu went a perfect 20-0 against MAAC opponents, going 9-0 in singles and 7-0 in doubles in the regular season and 4-0 in the MAAC Championships. Lu's 4-0 record in the MAAC Championships helped her earn the Most Outstanding Performer award at the conclusion of the tournament. Lu was also named to the All-MAAC First Team at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles, as well as the MAAC All-Academic honors.
