SOMERSET, NJ – Former Monmouth University men's lacrosse standout Bryce Wasserman '18 has been named the 2018 Collegiate Athletic Administrators of New Jersey (CAANJ) Male Student-Athlete of the Year, it was announced Thursday at the annual CAANJ Awards Luncheon.

The award comes following Wasserman's senior season in which he set single-season program records for goals (34), assists (17) and points (51). He closed his career as Monmouth's all-time leader in goals (99), game-winning goals (9), hat tricks (14), assists (50) and points (149). An All-MAAC First Team selection in 2018, Wasserman also became Monmouth's first-ever Major League Lacrosse draft pick when he was chosen by the Denver Outlaws.

"Bryce embodies what it means to be a student-athlete and everyone at Monmouth is proud of what he has accomplished," Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Marilyn McNeil stated. "We are grateful to have him recognized by the CAANJ as the recipient of this prestigious award and he is truly deserving of this honor."

Wasserman's professional career took off when he signed with the Ohio Machine this past July. In three games with Ohio, Wasserman scored eight goals and contributed two assists. His performance earned him a recently-signed three-year contract extension to remain with the Machine through 2021.

"Bryce had a great career here at Monmouth and continues to be a great ambassador for our program and University," head coach Brian Fisher said. "During his time on campus he has helped our program grow in so many ways; from our program's first win in 2015, to our first NCAA tournament berth in 2017. Our staff could not be happier for him and proud of all that he and his teammates achieved during his time on campus."

In the classroom, Wasserman was All-MAAC Academic Team selection for three-consecutive years (2016-18) and graduated cum laude this past May. He was also awarded Monmouth's Bill Boylan Award, presented annually to the senior student-athlete who demonstrate the traits of leadership, sportsmanship, scholarship and athletic ability that were so constant in the career of Bill Boylan. In addition, Wasserman is pursuing his graduate degree at Monmouth.

Wasserman's honor marks the second consecutive year a Monmouth men's lacrosse student-athlete has earned the award (Nick Hreshko) and the third time a Monmouth student-athlete has earned the award. Steve Suboleski from Monmouth's men's tennis program was recognized in 2010.
