Iona’s El- Sandali & Morenaite named MAAC Runners of the Week
Men’s Runner of the Week:
Ehab El-Sandali, Iona
So., Toronto, Ontario/West View
El-Sandali took fifth place in a time of 25:02 at the Penn State National Open. Multiple nationally ranked teams raced in the 8K event, including Arkansas (16), Eastern Kentucky (18), Virginia (19), Georgetown (29) and Virginia Tech (30). The Gaels entered the race ranked 27th in the national ranks.
Women’s Runner of the Week:
Egle Morenaite, Iona
So., Klaipeda, Lithuania/Priekules levos Simonaitytes Gymnasium
Competing at the Penn State National Open, sophomore Egle Morenaite placed 12th on the 6K course with a time of 20:58 and a pace of 5:37. Iona went up against fellow Northeast Regional ranked programs. Two teams that finished above the seventh ranked Gaels included Dartmouth, who is ranked third in the NE, and fourth ranked Brown. Nationally ranked programs competing in the Penn State National included Michigan State (14), the Nittany Lions (19), Princeton (27), and Utah (29).
