LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University freshman field hockey player Carly Brosious (Drexel Hill, PA/Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast) continues to rack up the weekly awards as she was named the Synapse Sports Division I National Rookie of the Week on Wednesday afternoon as announced by the organization.
On Monday, she was tabbed as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Brosious had a big week for the Broncs, scoring three goals as Rider went 2-0. In a 2-1 overtime win against Fairfield in MAAC play, she scored both of the team's goals. Her game-winning strike in the second overtime period versus the Stags was her fifth of the season. Brosious ended the week with a marker in a 4-2 non-conference win at Lehigh. She leads all first-year players in the MAAC in goals (10), points (24) and game-winning goals (5). Brosious is currently second in the MAAC with five game-winning goals.
She was the second Bronc to earn national recognition this week as goalkeeper Lena Vandam (Brasschaat, Belgium) was named to the named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Weekly Honor Roll.
Rider returns to action on Friday, October 19, with a road Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) showdown against Bryant that is slated to begin at 4:00 pm in the Ocean State. The Broncs are looking to avenge a 1-0 setback to the Bulldogs last season.
