Monmouth Clinches Sixth-Straight MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season Title

EDISON, NJ – Monmouth University (13-3-1, 8-1 MAAC) has clinched the 2018 MAAC Women’s Soccer Regular Season title for the sixth-straight season and earns the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming championship.

Monmouth defeated Niagara University, 2-0 Wednesday behind Amanda Knaub’s ninth shutout of the season to clinch the top overall seed. Jill Conklin and Dana Scheriff’s goals against the Purple Eagles propelled the Hawks through to the semifinals November 2.

The Hawks offense is led by three of the top scorers in the MAAC; Allie DeLuca, Madie Gibson and Lexie Palladino. Gibson and Palladino are tied for fourth in the MAAC with six goals each, while DeLuca has five. DeLuca is second in assists with six, Gibson’s has four and Palladino follows with three.

Monmouth is led on defense by Knaub. The senior goalkeeper currently leads the MAAC and ranks top 10 in the country in GAA (.358), shutouts (9) and save percentage (.900). Knaub also leads the MAAC in goals allowed (6) and shutouts per game (.529).

The back-to-back MAAC Champions have gone 28-5-3 at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn over the past four years. In conference play, the Hawks are a MAAC-best 35-3-1 over the last four seasons.

The 2018 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship follows a new format this year. The six team championship will take place over three days with all games being hosted by the higher seeds. First round games will take place on Sunday, October 28 and will be hosted by the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. The semifinal games are hosted by No. 1 and No. 2 seeds on Thursday, November 1 and the championship game Sunday, November 4 hosted will be hosted by the highest remaining seed. The Hawks will chase their third third consecutive MAAC championship.
