Women's Soccer Major Awards and All-MAAC Teams Announced

EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced the 2018 Women’s Soccer All-MAAC Teams, and major award winners. Monmouth University, who is the Regular Season Champion and number one seed in the MAAC Championship, claimed three major awards.

Madie Gibson of Monmouth was voted the Offensive Player of the Year after being name the Co-Preseason Player of the Year. Gibson was sixth in the MAAC with 18 points and second in assists with six. The redshirt-junior scored six goals this season and brings her career totals to 25 goals, 24 assists, and 74 points in 60 games.
 
Monmouth’s Jill Conklin was voted the Rookie of the Year. Conklin was second on the team with five assists and fifth with 11 points. The New Jersey native registered three goals on the season. Conklin is the fourth Hawk to earn the award and first since Gibson (2016).
 
Jessica Johnson of Monmouth claims Defensive Player of the Year honors. Johnson played the full-90 minutes on defense in 13-of-18 games this season. The Hawks defense allowed a league-best seven goals and an opponent average of 0.39 per game. Johnson recorded four assists and one goal to total six points in her junior campaign. Johnson’s lone tally was the game-winner against Marist College.

Siena College’s Taylor Dorado was named the Goalkeeper of the Year after an eight-shutout season, including five-of-seven to close the regular season. Dorado is second in the MAAC with 100 saves, eight shutouts, and an .862 save percentage. Dorado moved up to first all-time in program history with 19 career shutouts.
 
Leigh Howard led the Marist Red Foxes to the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship after being picked seventh in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Howard led the Red Foxes to a 9-7-2 overall record and a 7-2-1 mark in MAAC play. In her first season as Marist head coach, Howard’s squad was sixth in goals (24), tied for fifth in assists (21), and fifth in save percentage (.787).

About the Championship: 
The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship takes place, October 28-November 4. The semifinals will be played on Thursday, November 1, at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at No. 2 Marist and No. 1 Monmouth. The 2018 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship game is on Sunday, November 4 time and location are to be determined.
