Iona Claims 28th-Straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship
LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Iona College men’s cross country team earned their NCAA record 28th-straight MAAC Men’s Cross Country Championship Saturday at The Crossings of Colonie in Loudonville, NY. The Gaels were paced by Liam Dee, the 2018 Male Most Outstanding Runner, who ran a 25:01.0 over the 8K course.
Liam Dee is the 18th-straight individual champions for the Gaels.
Iona swept the top three positions to take home the title. Liam Dee was followed by his brother Jamie and last year’s Most Outstanding Rookie Ehab El- Sandali (25:01.8) in third.
The 2018 MAAC Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year is Jamie Dee from Iona. Dee finished the 8K in 25:01.3 placing second overall.
Along with Dee, the MAAC All-Rookie team is; Matthew Courtenay (15th, 25:53.3) of Iona, Cameron Starr (18th, 25:59.3) from Quinnipiac University, Graham Baird (20th, 26:04.8) from Iona, and Louis DiLaurenzio (30th, 26:18.2) from Monmouth University.
Postseason competition continues Friday, November 9th in Buffalo, NY for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. The NCAA Championships are November 17that the University of Wisconsin.
