Iona Claims Third-Straight MAAC Women's Cross Country Championship
LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Iona College women’s cross country team earned its third-straight MAAC Women’s Cross Country Championship Saturday at The Crossings of Colonie in Loudonville, NY. The Gaels were paced by Egle Morenaite, the 2018 Female Most Outstanding Runner, who ran a 21:11.4 on the 6K course.
Senior, Siobhan Quinn from Canisius College followed in second with 21:32.4. In third was senior Julia Kearley from Iona in 21:41.6.
The 2018 MAAC Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year is Hali Ielfield from Manhattan College. Ielfield finished the race in 22:18.5 finishing 12thoverall.
Along with Ielfield, the MAAC All-Rookie team is; Rebecca Walters (27th, 22:49.6) of Marist College, Gianna Mastromatteo (31st, 23:11.7) from Marist, Kate Gihorski (40th, 23:30.9) from Quinnipiac University, and Teagan Schein-Becke (54th, 23:50.1) from Rider University.
Postseason competition continues Friday, November 9th in Buffalo, NY for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship. The NCAA Championships are November 17that the University of Wisconsin.
