Siena’s Nelson & Riso Named MAAC Golfers of the Month for September
Men’s Golfer of the Month
Jared Nelson, Siena

Jared Nelson burst onto the scene with a pair of top-10 finishes over the first month of the season, highlighted by finishing in a tied for first in his collegiate debut. The freshman fired a phenomenal 71.2 scoring average over six rounds of play. Nelson teed off his collegiate career by finishing tied for first at the season-opening Cornell Invitational. After firing back-to-back rounds of 67 in his collegiate debut to claim the individual lead and tie for the lowest two-round score in program history on the first day, Nelson completed the 54-hole event by carding a solid 73 on the final day of competition. He then finished seventh at Dartmouth's Quechee Club Collegiate Invitational following rounds of 75 and 70, while tying for third in the event with eight total birdies. Nelson concluded his opening month with a round of 75 in the Second Annual Murray Cup.
Women’s Golfer of the Month
Sara Riso, Siena
Sr., Hamburg, NY/Mt. Mercy Academy
Sara Riso completed a tremendous opening month of the season in which she won an individual championship and also set a program record low-round score. The senior posted a 73.3 scoring average spanning eight rounds and recorded three top-four finishes. In her second of four events in the month, Riso set an individual program record low-round score of 66 during the First Round of the Dartmouth Invitational to propel Siena to a program record team low-round score of 298. Her strong start led her to a tied for third finish in the event. Riso followed that up with a tied for fourth place finish at the Boston College Intercollegiate, where she led the field with 4.07 (+2) par-4 scoring average for the tournament while parring 36 holes and birdieing six others over the 54-hole event. Riso capped her month by capturing her second individual title and the 30th in program history by winning the Hartford Hawks Invitational. She shot rounds of 70 and 71 to win the event by three strokes.
