2018 MAAC Field Hockey Conference Notes
EDISON, NJ – The 2018 MAAC Field Hockey Championship is set to begin November 2-4 in West Long Branch, NJ hosted by No. 1 seed Monmouth University. The Hawks are the regular season champions for the fifth consecutive season.
Broadcast Schedule:
Semifinal action starts with No. 2 Rider University (11-7) versus No. 3 Fairfield University (11-8) at 11 a.m. Following the Broncs and Stags, No. 1 Monmouth will play No. 4 Sacred Heart at 2 p.m. Both games will be on MAAC.TV and hosted by Monmouth at So Sweet A Cat Field in West Long Branch, NJ.

Championship Game
The First Time Around:
Fairfield and Rider play the early game on Friday at 11 a.m. The two met earlier in the season resulting in a Broncs, 2-1 victory. Rider leads the league in points (141), goals (50), assists (41). The Stags lead the MAAC in goals allowed (28), and goals against average (1.47).
Monmouth will play in game two of the semifinals on Friday versus No. 4 Sacred Heart. The Hawks beat the Pioneers, 4-1 back on October 14. Monmouth forward Georgia Garden Bachop leads the league in points (34), goals (15), and points per game (2.62).The Hawks scored 46 goals and recorded 35 assists, both second in the MAAC behind Fairfield. Sacred Heart’s led offensively by Colleen McAninley’s 21 points and Kelsey Hopkins’ 17. Allie Brouhard along with McAininley and Hopkins scored five goals each for the Pioneers.
Players to Watch:
Georgia Garden Bachop, Monmouth: Leads the league in points, goals, and points per game. Garden Bachop has tallied 18 points during the Hawks’ undefeated league season (5-0), including eight goals. The senior forward also scored a league-high seven game-winning goals.
Lena Vandam, Rider: The sophomore goalkeeper raised her win totals from seven last year to eleven and set career-bests in saves (114), losses (7), and faced 237 shots allowing 37 goals. Vandam is second in the league with four shutouts.
Emma Matlach, Fairfield: Tied for third in goals with 11 and second in assists with seven. Third in the league with four game-winning goals. The sophomore scorer set career-highs in every major category.
Hailey Power, Sacred Heart: Second in the MAAC with 122 saves and first in saves per game with 8.13. The sophomore goalkeeper has allowed 35 goals this season, third-lowest in the league. The Delaware product went 1-2 in league play this year.
MAAC Championship History:
Fairfield has been in the past three
MAAC Field Hockey Championship games; winning two. Monmouth was the 2017 runners-up and the 2016 and 2014 champions. Monmouth and Fairfield each have two MAAC Championships, most in league history. Monmouth leads MAAC history with three championship appearances. The MAAC introduced Field Hockey in 2013.
