MAAC Softball Teams & Student-Athletes Honored by NFCA

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) had six teams ranked in the Top 75 of Division I and 51 student-athletes honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for their prowess in the classroom.
 
A total of 1,311 Division I student-athletes earned a 3.5 GPA or higher. One-hundred-seven Division I teams were named 2017-18 Easton/NFCA Academic Teams. Grand Canyon had the top team GPA in Division at 3.79.
 
Iona College was the highest ranked team from the MAAC in a tie for 36th with a team GPA of 3.48. Iona tied with Drake and Troy. The Gaels also had a league-best 10 student-athletes earn Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors.
 
Quinnipiac University finished 41st in the team GPA at 3.46--tied with Virginia. The Bobcats had seven student-athletes named scholar-athletes. Manhattan College was the third school inside the Top 50 from the MAAC in 49th. The Jaspers were one behind the Gaels with nine student-athletes being named Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete.
 
Marist College tied for 60th in team GPA (3.391) with Indiana. Rider tied for 67th (3.35) along with Washington, Nicholls State, and Alabama State. Fairfield ranked 72nd (3.34). Marist had five student-athletes earn scholar-athlete distinction. Rider and Fairfield both had eight and Monmouth University had four.
