MAAC Soccer Teams Earn Academic Awards from United Soccer Coaches
KANSAS CITY, MO – The United Soccer Coaches announced its Team Academic Award winners for the 2017-18 academic year. The MAAC had six schools get recognized for their efforts in the classroom.
Iona College, Marist College, Monmouth University, and Siena College had both men’s and women’s teams honored. Quinnipiac University and Rider University had its respective women’s team honored.
A team must maintain a 3.0 GPA during the academic year to be eligible for the Team Academic Award.
Iona's men's team finished the year with a 3.172 and was honored for the first time since 2014. The men’s team at Marist finished the year with a 3.26 GPA, and the women closed at 3.53. Monmouth’s men and women finished at a 3.03 team GPA. The Siena men’s team posted a team GPA of 3.12 last year, while the women’s team had a 3.54.
The women's team at Iona earned a 3.691 GPA in 2017-18 and was honored by the United Soccer Coaches for the eighth time. This year is the seventh time since 2009 that Marist men have made the list and the 12th time for the women since 2004. Monmouth’s men have been honored seven times since 2010. This is the 15th time since 2000 that the Monmouth women’s team has made it. Siena’s men’s team received the honor for the sixth time over the last eight years. It is the 16th-straight year the Siena women have gotten honored.
Quinnipiac’s women had a 3.47 GPA last year, and Rider’s women closed the year at 3.58. Quinnipiac makes the list for the 14th-straight year. The Rider women received the honor for the seventh-straight year and 10th time since 2007.
