After a scoreless first half, the University of Akron (11-6-2) broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of goals inside the final seven minutes to top Rider University (10-10-1), 3-1, in the First Round of the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship.
Akron Notes
• David Egbo scored his 11th of the season to open the scoring in the 51st minute.
• Egbo added the game-winner in the 83rd minute to make it 2-1 in favor of the Zips.
• Marcel Zajac netted the final tally for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 88th.
• Ben Lundt stopped four shots to earn the win in goal.
• Akron advances to face No. 16 Syracuse in the Second Round.
Rider Notes
• Pablo DeCastro scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season to even the score in the 77th minute.
• Garret Potter allowed three goals and made three stops after coming on in the 37th minute.
• Emmanuel Kouma provided the assist on DeCastro’s tally.
