MAAC Volleyball Championship First Round

Number three seed Rider University (18-10) won its 10th game in its last 11 to advance to the Second Round of the MAAC Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 win over No. 10 Siena College (4-28). The Broncs had three players with double-digit kills and digs.
Rider Notes
• The Broncs snapped a three-game losing streak at the MAAC Championship.
• Perry Williams led the Broncs’ offense with 13 kills and hit .333.
• Hailey Riede (12 kills), and Alexa Shello (10) added to the offense.
• Setter Anilee Sher dished out 42 assists and added 12 digs.
• The Broncs had 16 blocks as a team—four players with at least three block assists.
• Rider will play No. 8 Saint Peter’s in Round 2 at 10 a.m. tomorrow on ESPN3.

• Katarina Nicic and Antonija Ivanovic had 12 kills to lead the Saints.
• Jessica Eblin recorded 37 assists and 12 digs.
• Nicole Deobler posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Fourth-seeded Fairfield University (13-15) hit .259 to beat No. 9 Manhattan College (5-27) 3-0 and move through to the Second Round of the MAAC Volleyball Championship. The Stags had 46 kills compared to 18 errors.
Fairfield Notes
• The win was the 200th for head coach Todd Kress at Fairfield. Kress is the program’s all-time leader in wins and games coached.
• Julia Kallen led the Stags’ offense with a dozen kills. Sydney Williams was also in double figures with 10.
• Alexis Rich ran the offense for the Stags and tallied 41 assists.
• Taylor Rudeen had a game-high 22 digs defensively.
• Fairfield will play No. 7 Quinnipiac at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow on ESPN3.
Manhattan Notes
• Abby Wilde had 18 assists, five digs, and two kills for the Jaspers.
• Five different Jaspers had three or more kills.
• Manhattan had 10 blocks—Kenza Hall had three block assists.

In a match that featured 37 ties and 19 lead changes, No. 8 Saint Peter’s (9-24) advanced to Round Two of the 2018 MAAC Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 win over No 5 Marist College (14-15). Saint Peter’s won sets three and four by identical scores of 25-23.
Saint Peter’s Notes
• The win is the first Volleyball Championship win for the Peacocks since 2006 against Niagara.
• Karen Ramiu finished with a double-double (14 kills and 12 digs).
• Angeleyshka Curbelo chipped in 12 kills and hit .200.
• Karla Seda had 16 digs defensively to lead the Peacocks.
• Saint Peter’s will play No. 3 Rider at 10 a.m. tomorrow on ESPN3.
Marist Notes
• Nikki DeSerpa had 14 kills and 14 digs.
• Morgan Owens had a game-high 19 digs on the backend for the Red Foxes.
• Taylor van der Biezen recorded a double-double with 36 assists and 13 digs, and added four kills.

Seventh-seeded Quinnipiac University (9-20) needed a fifth set to advance to the Second Round of the 2018 MAAC Volleyball Championship. Quinnipiac got past No. 6 Niagara University (9-19), 3-2. The fifth set saw four ties, and saw the Bobcats only take the lead at 14-13.
Quinnipiac Notes
• Kat Miller broke the program record for kills in a match with 34. The senior added 30 digs to become the first Bobcat to record a double-double with 30-plus kills and 30-plus digs.
• Maria Pansari handed out 56 assists and recorded 29 digs.
• Alejandra Rodriguez was also over 20 digs with 25.
• The Bobcats advance to play in-state rival No. 4 Fairfield at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow on ESPN3.
Niagara Notes
• Caroline Leitch led the attack with 15 kills and added 16 digs.
• Grace Hetterscheidt tallied 12 kills on a .435 clip. Hetterscheidt also added 12 block assists.
• Jessica Streuer also had a double-double with 34 assists and 19 digs.
