MAAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Second Round

Third-seeded Rider University (19-10) advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Championship with a 3-1 win over No. 8 seed Saint Peter’s University (9-25). The Broncs got 34 kills from Savannah Logan and Hailey Riede combined.

• The Broncs advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2004.
• Logan had 20 kills on 44 attacks for a .250 clip and added 11 digs.
• Riede recorded 14 kills. It was the 11th time in her last 12 matches that the senior was in double figures.
• Rachelle Runyon posted a game-high 24 digs.

• Karen Ramiu had another double-double (10 kills, 17 digs), her 10th of the season.
• Angelee Ng and Wildalys Soto had 16 assists apiece.

MAAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Second Round

No. 4 Fairfield University (14-15) made it back-to-back sweeps at the MAAC Championship with a 3-0 win over No. 7 Quinnipiac University (9-21). The Stags swept Manhattan College in the first round on Thursday.
Fairfield Notes
• Luci Albertson and Julian Kallen led the attack with 10 kills.
• Rich handed out 39 assists to give her 1,123 for the year, which is the fifth-most by a first-year setter for the Stags.
• Fairfield improved to 15-2 all-time against Quinnipiac.
• The Stags advanced to play top seed Iona College in the semifinals at 5 p.m. The two sides split the two regular season meetings.
Quinnipiac Notes
• Morgan Sherwin led the offense with 14 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double.
• Kat Miller recorded a team-high 16 digs and recorded six kills.
• Maria Pansari tallied 38 assists and added two service aces.

No. 1 Iona College (19-7) advanced to the MAAC Championship Game—Saturday at 3 p.m.—with a 3-0 win over No. 4 Fairfield University (14-16). The Gaels hit .232 as a team and limited the Stags to a .032 clip.
Iona Notes
• Claire Archibald and Mia Bonsignore posted 11 kills. Archibald added 12 digs for a double-double.
• Emma Rose dished out 36 assists and tacked on four kills.
• Jessica Paolucci shared the team lead with Archibald with 12 digs.
• Iona returns to the championship game after falling to Fairfield in last season’s final.
• The Gaels’ won the MAAC Championship back in 2004. Iona also made the championship game in 2010.
Fairfield Notes
• Mayda Garcia led the Stags in kills with seven and added nine digs.
• Three other Stags had at least four kills.
• Alexis Rich recorded 20 assists.

In the second semifinal, No. 2 Canisius College (17-11) scored seven of the final 10 points of set four to advance past No. 3 Rider University (19-11) 3-1, and get to Saturday’s Championship Game. Canisius will play No. 1 Iona at 3 p.m. on ESPN3.
Canisius Notes
• Three Golden Griffins were in double figures in kills; Leah Simmons (17), Sara Wesley (13), and Gabrielle Darnaby (10).
• Cassidy Ceriani directed an offense that hit .264 and had 48 assists.
• Sofia Lopez Acosta had a game-high 32 digs.
• Canisius will play for the program’s first MAAC Championship on Saturday.
• The win is the fourth-straight for the Griffs and eighth in their last 10.
Rider Notes
• Hailey Riede led the offensive attack for the Broncs with 14 kills and a .306 hitting percentage.
• Savannah Logan added a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.
• Anilee Sher quarterbacked the offense with 36 assists.
• Four Broncs had double figure digs defensively, led by Rachelle Runyon’s 23.
