Niagara’s Prochet and Fairfield’s Alvarez Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Award Winners

Player of the Week
Marvin Prochet, Niagara

Marvin Prochet became the first Purple Eagle to start the season with three consecutive double-doubles in nine seasons. Prochet averaged 19.0 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game to lead Niagara in both categories as the Purple Eagles won two out of three games for their best start to a season since the 2009-10 campaign. He shot 42.9 percent from the field and shot a team-best 47.8 percent from behind the 3-point line, including making a team-high 11 3-pointers. In the season opening win over local rival St. Bonaventure, Prochet had a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, and co-led the team in assists with three. Prochet scored 14 points and added 11 rebounds at 2018 Final Four participant Loyola Chicago on November 14. Prochet notched his 12th career double-double with a career-high 23 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, which were both team highs, in the victory over Wyoming on November 16.

Rookie of the Week
Netftali Alvarez, Fairfield

Neftali Alvarez averaged 13.5 points in a pair of close losses for the Stags. He started the week with 12 points against LIU Brooklyn and followed up with 15 points against Wagner. The freshman has reached double figures in all four of his games since joining the Stags. He put together his best all-around game of the season against Wagner, scoring 15 points and adding eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in 34 minutes of work. For the week, he averaged 5.5 assists and two steals per game.
