Monmouth to Play William & Mary in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship Opening Round

INDIANAPOLIS, IN
 – The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Field Hockey Champions, Monmouth University, heads to Williamsburg, VA to take on William & Mary for an NCAA Field Hockey Championship Opening Round game. The match will take place on November 7 with the time to be determined. The winner will then travel to Chapel Hill, NC to take on the No. 1 seed University of North Carolina. The Tar Heels will host the first and second rounds of their region.
 
For the second time in three years, Monmouth claimed the MAAC Field Hockey Championship. Led by MAAC Player of the Year and MVP of the MAAC Field Hockey Championship, Georgia Garden Bachop, the top-seeded Hawks defeated third-seeded Fairfield University, 2-1. Ireen Frenken and Garden Bachop scored goals for the Hawks in the championship game. Garden Bachop leads the MAAC with 37 points and 16 goals, both career-highs. The senior forward is sixth in the country, averaging 2.5 points per game, and tied for seventh with 1.07 goals per game.
 
This is the third time under head coach Carli Figlio that the Hawks will play in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship. Figlio was named the BSN Sports MAAC Field Hockey Coach of the Year. Figlio and the Hawks went 10-0 at home this season and enter the NCAA Championship at 13-6 overall.
