Monmouth University (13-7) fell to the College of William & Mary (12-7), 3-2 in overtime in the opening round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship. The Hawks earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Field Hockey Championship with their 2-1 victory over Fairfield University (12-9) Sunday, November 4.
Senior forward Georgia Garden Bachop scored her 17
th and 18
th goals of the season Wednesday. The Hawks led 2-1 with 63:29 on the clock before the Tribe tied the game up with just under five minutes remaining. The Tribe scored five minutes into overtime to win and advance to play No. 1 University of North Carolina (19-0).
Monmouth Notes:
- Georgia Garden Bachop finished the season with 41 points—18 goals, 5 assists.
- Kelly Hanna finished the season with eight assists, second in the MAAC.
- Monmouth has won two of the past three MAAC Championships (2016, 2018).
- Elyssa Okken recorded an assist on Garden Bachop’s second goal of the afternoon.
- Kate O’Hogan recorded 10 saves and finishes with a record of 9-2.
- Monmouth finishes the season 13-7 and won five-of-six games to close the year.
William & Mary Notes:
- Annie Snead recorded her fourth goal of the season and tallied an assist on Estelle Hughes’ goal.
- Hughes scored her 13th goal of the year.
- Woodard Hooper nailed her 13th goal of the season and the overtime game-winner.
- Goalkeeper Kimi Jones recorded one save.
- William & Mary has played nine overtime games this season (6-3), the most in the nation.
